I have just started up another year in the Parks, Recreation & Tourism department at the U. Yes, some of my classmates are getting a degree to be trail guides and ski instructors. My emphasis is commercial recreation because I want to be an event planner. Well or use my minor and be a computer nerd. Anyway, last year, both semesters I had a blast, school was a breeze and assignments were the least of my worries. You never heard the word "test" even uttered within the walls of these rooms. Half the time I felt like I was on a field trip or at a summer camp. A $4,000 summer camp. (But look what Obama promises!!!
How exciting and misleading and unrealstic is that?)
Back to the PRT topic. I HAVE HARD CLASSES NOW GUYS!! I never thought the day would come but I'm doing big finance problems and studying huge amounts of legal terms AND WRITING PAPERS! It's quite the change, but I was ready to see what this college thing was all about. I'm just realizing it at my Senior year. Cool.
I am a 21 year old girl working two jobs and attending college, and the grill fell off my car a few weeks ago. HA! That made my life sound pretty hard. I'm grateful for my life and the ease/challenges of it. Even though I'm not graduating any time soon I have been thinking about those who ARE graduating soon and WILL be 100% adults in the real world. As a girl, if I'm not graduating as a school teacher or a nurse I don't know what I'm doing with my life. Kidding. That's too generic. I don't know if what I will be doing when I graduate will be making a substantial amount of money or not. I'll work hard enough to survive and maybe I won't be eating at Chick-Fil-A anymore if I can't afford that. But I'll be happy with my work, and that's what's important to me.
Some people might say that I'm a little bit sexist or stereotypical (I hope I'm using the right words) for saying that I don't plan on being the breadwinner for my family, but I want to be a mom instead. And I should be. I'll probably have about 9 kids and they'll be adorably dressed in clothes that you can BET will have be purchased for a good deal. My degree will allow me to make money as needed and hopefully work a desired amount of hours. AND I'LL BE HAPPY. But boys? I feel so sorry for them! As soon as they graduate high school they go to college. By their early 20s they are working on a degree that they most likely chose to pursue before they were even an adult. Men plan on providing for their families, but how do they know they'll be happy with their work for the next 40 years? They don't. It would be scary to be a boy, to dive into a job or career and consider sticking with it for the rest of your life, and crossing your fingers that it would make you happy, and it could support your family. I would rather have a happy and healthy family than have a lot of money but uptight relationships. Family is important, and it will all work out.
I'm grateful to be a girl, sorry boys, I hope it all works out, but if not--you could dress up and charge for pictures like this guy.
My friends know me well enough to know that I am a picky dater. Ridiculously picky. But I'm fine with it, I'd rather be single for months at a time instead of go on dates that won't go anywhere but just to date. Really I don't like dating much, but that's what the topic of every bit of life advice I've gotten from people lately has been. From meeting with my bishop last week to lessons, conversations with friends all the way to an encounter this past weekend I was at the temple in St. George where 67-year-old Jim. He gave my friends and I some advice since we're all "21 and single".
He says there are only three traits that your husband needs:
No bad habits
Ambition
Intelligence
Well, the length of this list that I made a year and a half ago definitely exceeds the three necessary traits. Can I fix it? Maybe. I guess I don't have to be so particular. I am though, because I'm sure there is someone out there who sings hymns at church, has my taste in music, a dirty mind but is super spiritual and knowledgeable about the gospel. Oh and wears corduroy pants with good shoes. All in all my list is pretty up to date though. He exists. Those 3 up there are good though, and necessary but everything can be figured out and really after living with Rachel I could live with anyone. (Just kidding Rach love you). I have to add a number four and five. Four--has a testimony and five--hilarious, like belly ache laugh hilarious.
I found a paper in my scriptures though that says
My Future Husband:
After I filled out the characteristics I wanted when I was 14 I crossed it out and wrote
My Future HusbandSelf:
It's true though, just like you are what you eat. Kind of, in a way--you are what you marry. And it will only work if you both are 100% invested and willing. So I hope that when I get married and am Jim's age that my husband still doesn't have any bad habits, because that's a long time to live with someone annoying me. It's fine though, I'll be in love.
I'm actually not offended at all that one of my friends told me this completely reminds her of me. Because the other day I found this picture and thought the exact same thing. My mom asked me to stop saying the s word on my twitter but I know she only looks at my blog occasionally. Sorry Mom.
Instead of a romantic proposal someday I would be 100% fine with him saying this. As long as he meets the other requirements--speaking of which, needs an update.
COMING SOON.
CURRENTLY LISTENING TO:
Doo Wop (That Thing) by Lauryn Hill on Grooveshark
My dad sent me the link to this video on Facebook this morning. It has some of my favorite music in it :/ and is a comparison of life torunning a marathon. "How many people would sign up for a marathon if they didn't think they could really finish it?" I know it is directed to the youth and that I'm....not technically "the youth" anymore. I'm TWENTY-ONE, an adult, it freaks me out, shouldn't I have my life all figured out and onto the next step by now? Nope, sorry. It's not that I'm "coasting", I know that I'm still progressing towards bigger and better things but I also am content with where I am right now and who I'm becoming. Even when I hit frustrating experiences I don't feel stuck in a rut. I came to Earth just like you did because "we must have thought we could pass the test." And we can, you will. So please appreciate this encouraging and heartfelt side of me because it's not likely to come out on my blog very often.
school is here. i'm a junior and i'm rushing a greek sorority, i feel old. but with xi gone i don't really know what else to get involved in. i have the opportunity to help open up a chapter of alpha phi at the u, or step into a house that is already built up. don't know what to do. rush was fun, besides the fact that i had a permasmile just to mask my pain of being in the heat and sunlight for 8 hours. ahhhhhhh it was awful.
just a few random quotes i've heard lately that have been good:
"He who takes offense when it is intended is a fool. He who takes offense when none is intended is a greater fool."
Brigham Young
The Abundance Mentality, learn about it. Let everyone be important in your life.
sooooo last night was a big deal in xi. jessie got released as president. i made her laugh as she stood in front of everyone. then i got sustained as president. and she made me laugh while i stood at the front. awesome, not embarrassing. i'm excited though! i love xi, i'm so happy i get to work closely with our advisor vicki for one more year--especially because it's her last!
if anyone who creeeeeeps on this blog is around the 801...you need to join an lds sorority at the u. they're so amazing and you meet awesome people and have fun times. you don't need to be a student. but you need to enroll in institute, but you should anyway so you can find your ec(duh). you just....can't be over 30. that would be weird if you were 30 and wanting to spend your time with recent high school graduates anyway. look at how much FUN we have.
it's scary to think of all those who are still missing due to the earthquake and tsunami. 8.9 is powerful! recently it has been said that the death toll is near 10,000.
two of my friends are serving in the sendai mission for the church. through church news it was reported that all missionaries in 5 of the 6 missions in japan were accounted for. because of the destruction it was nearly impossible for communication within sendai. turns out every single one of the missionaries in sendai were together when the earthquake hit. they were having zone conference. all safe and sound together. on top of this incredible instance is another. my advisor shared this same story with my sorority yesterday about a young man that she knows in this mission as well. she said that the number of missionaries being called to japan in the past few months is nearly four times greater than it regularly has been.
incredible.
the church was ready to respond to this event before it even happened. one of millions of small occurrences that assures me to know the church is true and led by an inspired prophet.
i am going to be a power walker with a fanny pack.
i will live in kaysville and be the biggest davis fan. still.
i will be wrinkly. unless of course i can find a doctor who can make me look as young and natural as this.
i hope my husband will want to wear matching clothes. just so that people will laugh.
i will embrace the idea of having white hair and wearing bright red lipstick.
i'll put lipstick on my front tooth on purpose and act like i don't know it.
i'm going to try and smell young, and not like that oatmeal scented soap. sorry if you don't know what i'm talking about. :/
i'm going to chaperone dances and look like this.
i'll act like i can't hear people if i don't care what they're saying.
i'm going to wear seasonal sweaters.
i hope i am as cute as carl and ellie on up.
i'm going to have yard decorations.
i'm going to give out killer halloween candy.
i'll pretend to be confused by computers just to frustrate my kids. ha.
i'm going to make up stories to tell my grandkids so that they think i was cool.
i'll drive soooooooo......sloooooow, just because i can.
random thoughts, but here's why. my mom was behind an old man in walgreen's today who asked where all of the valentine's stuff was and why it was taken down already. "isn't it on monday?" he asked. ha. at least he tried, just a month behind.
Today, Thursday December 16, 2010 at approximately 2:00 pm I finished my third semester of my hire edjukashun.
CELEBRATION!!
This enormous tower of books represents 700 times the amount of studying I did this semester :/
(Also I sold my books for the first time ever, that was cool)
Another highlight of today, I declared a major. Cool, good job me, it only took 18 months to decide, and will only take 2 more months to decide to change it. At least I'm not "undecided" anymore.
