Indirect Communication

I would have to say that the worst way of getting your point across is by trying to do so through indirect communication.  If you have something to say why not just say it how it is?  There are few cases where I'd say this varies:

  1. Tweets
    1. Stop tweeting at the world when you in fact have things to say to a specific person.  None of us want to hear or guess who you're talking at when you say "I can't believe I listened to you," or "Can't get you off my mind."  Like obviously you had a bad relationship.  And how dumb would you feel if your ex saw that their existence obviously takes up most of your time.  Stop tweeting about it.  Write in a journal or talk to your mom.
  2. Songs
    1. Text message:  "Hey you should listen to this song, I think you'll really like it"
      1. The lyrics are indirectly saying exactly what this person wants to say to you, but they can't say it.  I call this pulling a Taylor Swift.
  3. The Grapevine
    1. "My friend told me that her roommate heard you and your sister talking at Starbucks last week about her.  Are you fighting?"
  4. Friendly Notes :)
    1. I suppose this way is actually quite direct and to the point.  It's all done through notes though.  This is awkward because then when you see each other in person you remember that you forgot how to talk to people's faces when you have a problem.
    2. My friend had these on her Instagram, battles between her roommates.  Hilare. Hopefully Hailey and Kaisha figured things out.

The Calico Cat

I understand where girls are coming from when they want to add a little color to their hair.  But why do they color their hair so intensely?  If you're a blonde, be a blonde.  If you're a brunette, please be a brunette, don't bleach it.  Back and forth and back and forth....does your ID still work? I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't.  In my eyes a girl who constantly is at the salon is a little psycho.  Nothing necessarily explains why I think that, but I just do.  She probably listens to Evanescence or The Veronicas.
A little mix of this and a splash of that will turn you into a Calico cat.  Be careful, you don't want to look like the hair model of your best friend who is attending Paul Mitchell.  No offense, you might be doing her a favor.  If the stripes and spots don't give you that feline look you're seeking then go ahead and apply the "cat-eye" eyeliner effect like below. Works like a charm.

Rarrrrrr.

The 24 Hour Rule

Everyone knows the 24 hour rule.  If you don't then let me educate you.  The 24 hour rule I'm talking about is in reference to dating.  When you get a phone number you shouldn't use it for 24 hours.  If you go on a date you don't need to contact them again for 24 hours.  This rule is often times thrown out the window, but still most everyone knows it exists whether they choose to live by it or not.  There are a few other topics besides dating that I think the 24 hour rule should be applied to.  Both have to do with Facebook.

1.  Posting photos
2.  The friend request

I understand that in most of our minds the reason for taking a photo is to be able to put it online and show off to all of your friends all of the fun times you're having.  It's ridiculous that once a photo is taken someone almost always will just candidly yell out a "caption" for that photo.  Facebook being talked about outside of Facebook is annoying.  But it happens, daily, and is right now.  Shoot.  As soon as the photos are taken (and edited of course) then it's time for them to hit the good old FB.  The night is done, and there are those certain people who think it's normal to post their happenings of the day/night at 3:00 A.M.  This isn't normal.  I don't think I am the only one who would tell you that either.  Sleep!  Telling your friends what you've been up to can wait until the next day.  See, 24 hour rule is valid in this situation.

There are a few exceptions that make adding someone on Facebook after having only met them once acceptable.  These exceptions are so rare that I won't even take the time to mention them.  I know Facebook friends don't equal real life friends--but you should at least know each other in real life.  And having over 1,000 friends makes that difficult.  Meeting briefly, exchanging names, never seeing each other again, but being Facebook friends is weird to me.  I'm apologizing right now if I have ever done this to anyone, I'm sure I have. Even worse than the one-time-meeting add is the never-even-once-meeting add.  "Hey! Yeah I think we're Facebook friends!"

:/

Here's another rant about Facebook.

Better With The Lights Off

I think that when it's dark most people lose a lot of their inhibition or their entire mind. (^^obviously got dressed in the dark)  In some cases all of their inhibition.  Maybe their conscience just disappears.  I went 80s dancing this week and literally had a pit in my stomach for the sickos in the corner.

I don't think I even want to call it dancing.  Dancing doesn't go on at "dance parties" anymore.  It's more entertaining than that.  If you have ever been dancing with someone and had people surrounding you clapping and yelling to keep going--you should definitely be ashamed, because you were probably embarrassing yourself.  Sorry if that sounds rude, but you were probably dancing/kissing like the pair above.  Every time I go to a dance party I feel like I'm 18 again, but I'm 21.  I refuse to ever date anyone that I meet on the dance floor.  If there were a boy at a dance party that didn't have on a basketball jersey, sunglasses, a flat brimmed hat, high tops, or extra cologne--then I might consider it.  Because boys without those characteristics don't usually attend college dance parties I don't plan on meeting someone.  Ever.  Seriously no exceptions.  Meeting someone like that is as embarrassing as meeting on Facebook in my book.  Well, almost.  Maybe.  This is the reason that I dance like I don't care, and push people out of the cages, and kick boys who are trying to photobomb pictures.

Here's My Email

Those words above always make me nervous when someone in a class say them.  You know, you're working on an assignment or project and need to be in contact with everyone.  There are two types of bad email addresses that could follow this statement.  First, their school ID address.  Who uses those?  I have checked my Umail maybe three times each semester of college.  Maybe I am just a lousy student but I probably won't check it till spring break.  At that point it usually is pointless mail anyway.  So when someone gives me their email address and it corresponds with the university I'm a little confused as to how they have an outside life from school.  Maybe they don't.  Or maybe they are too embarrassed by their alternative one which brings me to the second type of bad email addresses.  The ones that are too personalized, too personalized since the 8th grade.  I'll use mine for example: soccerqween8@hotmail.com.  I realize that qween is spelled wrong but with queen spelled right the address was unavailable so I had to be soccerQWEEN8.  Of course it was at hotmail.com because my address had to be compatible with MSN Instant Messenger.  @msn.com was too hard to figure out and I never understood the kids who had email addresses @aol.com because that seemed so adult like. Just the other day my friend borrowed my computer to check her facebook.  She typed "prettykitti@yahoo.com" and I could not stop laughing.  We're 21 here, but I love her--and it's just Facebook, she does have a professional one too.  I will be that any girl reading this blog had an email address consisting of one of these four words:  surfer, dancer, queen, gurl.

Don't lie and say you didn't.

It's Exhausting

I Tweet.
I Instagram.
I HeyTell.
I could go on and on and on.

Is this too much?  I think so.  I really am way too socially connected.  There is too much information going into my head.  Too many things to consider, people to laugh at, conversations to keep track of, pictures to see--everything.  The thing with social networking is that you know too much about people.

"Did you go to Starbucks today? Yeah that picture of your drink looked amazing/hipster."
"Is your room clean?  I know you were getting so tired of it."
"How's that new music you listened to on Spotify?"
"Who were you with today at the gym? Oh never mind I saw your check in."

I read a blog post, is that about me?  I re-tweet something and wonder who's going to think it's directed that them.  I read someone's tweets and wonder why their emotions are displayed every three seconds.  Then I wonder why I'm blogging about this? Oh well.  We're all so vain, and concerned.  Oh dear.

"I had this guy leave me a voicemail at work, so I called him at home, and then he emailed me to my BlackBerry, and so I texted to his cell, and now you just have to go around checking all these different portals just to get rejected by seven different technologies.  It's exhausting."  From He's Just Not That Into You.

Really, ^^^ too many means of communication, friends, teachers, boys, parents--way too socially connected.

Political correctness.  I can't handle it.  It is a good thing, but too much of it is exactly that--too much.  So the University of Utah is considering changing the mascot of the Ute Indian with the drum and feather as the logo.  If this takes effect I wouldn't be surprised if next up someone stands up for the brown bear and SLCC has to change their name from the Bruins.  Well let's be real, who cares about SLCC.  It's a great school.

it's on hartford.

perks to living in an old house:

  1. hmm, maybe i'll have to come back to this one.

downsides to living in an old house:

  1. plumbing. it's fine that we have to use the plunger each time we flush the toilet--as the landlords say "just to be safe." more like "just cause we're cheap and haven't paid anyone to clean it out since 1943."
  2. grass. however many different types of grass exist in the entire world is the same number of types of grass that exist in our yard. including crab. while on the subject of the grass, let me make mention of the fact that the back left wheel on the lawnmower continuously falls off.
  3. portable dishwasher. in a mini kitchen.  ever seen one? we have to roll the dishwasher to the sink and connect the hose. it does block the entire walking path and occasionally leak. but why on earth would we EVER hand wash something?
  4. no disposal. self explanatory.
  5. leaky sink. pipe repaired with duct tape + drip pot that needs to be emptied every day + forgetting to empty the pot for a few days = a flooded kitchen of dirty sink water. slip and slide? gross, no.
  6. stove. it tips over on occasion. the legs are broken. is it sanitary? i do not know. stains everywhere lead me to believe that it is not.
  7. refrigerator. like everything else--it leaks all over the wood floor.
  8. paint jobs. how many times has this house been painted? probably 14.  how many times was it done well? ummmmm once? and i only say that because i think our job is great but let's be honest. it's never been painted well.  i know this because there are 6 different colors on my bedroom light switch and a few on the closet doors.
  9. cinder walls. hercules hooks have no chance.
  10. purple carpet. alright maroon sounds better. how about plumb? either way i hate it.

8.04.2011

country music

i hate it.
if i were to write a country song it would go something like this, "i was married once, we grew up together, fallin' in love since the 4th grade. we both had dogs, then hers died, and then mine ran away and i drank my life away but i was happy cause i was playin' my fiddle by the campfire and had my good ole' blue jeans." or, "once upon a time i was growin' up in a little family on the country side of montana and ma' gramdma lived with us and i had a rough growin' up but i made it, and let me tell ya how i made it, i prayed and i rode ma' horses and i played my geetar and had ma' DOG, and now i'm just thinking of these memories."

there are only 3 cases in which it is acceptable.
1. while camping
2. if it's taylor swift
3. DIRT ROAD ANTHEM BY JASON ALDEAN

why do i love it? i have no idea, and i'm ticked about it. but i can't take it off of repeat.

some cowboys are cute though, like my brother.

[apology]

i need to apologize to anyone who saw me at school today. or the people that i avoided. because....i wore leggings as pants today.
there's no excuse for that.
except i couldn't find any sweats so i had to.
and i know that my hoodie was longer than this shirt and i hope also know mine were not this see through.

anyway, super sorry.

4.05.2011

[hurr]

i slept alone at my house last night. with...pepper spray, my wallet and car keys underneath my pillow :)

i was in such a hurry this morning to leave the house so that i wouldn't get kidnapped inside that i forgot to rinse the conditioner (not cream rinse, and definitely not cream rEnse) out of my hair.

i could easily do this with no hairspray or pins today.
i feel clean.

3.05.2011

[dentist]

  • do dental assistants have any depth perception?  they always floss deeper than they should and it makes me wince.
  • where are you supposed to look when they are 8 inches from your face? awkward eye contact? no. but if you close your eyes you end up keeping your mouth open even once they are done. awkward too.
  • do x-ray plates have to be rectangular with sharp edges?  i literally think it cut the roof of my mouth.
  • it used to be that leaving the dentist your teeth felt super smooth. now, with the new fluoride, you leave feeling like you just drank root-beer and ate 3 packs of skittles.
  • is it not the most painful thing ever when they are resting their hand against your lip as they maneuver a tool around in there? your lip is pinched against your tooth and it hurts! and there is nothing you can do but maybe try to smile to get your lip unhooked? i don't know.
  • am i the only one who flosses extra good for the three days before i go so that they don't tell me i have gingivitis?
  • is it necessary for them to call a tiny bit of bleeding in your gums GINGIVITIS? that sounds awful.
  • i always feel like i'm 7 when i get to pick out my toothbrush.
  • is there anyone who really gets cookie dough polish? that is disgusting.
  • i am very grateful that dentist chairs are comfortable now, instead of how they used to be.

p.s. i'm cavity free. i didn't get a certificate like i used to though. i was ticked.

2.25.2011

[too personalized]

there are so many cool things that can be personalized in the world today, but some need to be left alone, the generic way.

like:

[ringback tones]
if you call someone expecting a regular dial tone but hear "hips don't lie" it's awkward when they pick up...

[debit cards]
have you ever worked at a store where you take someones debit card to charge them and they have those personalized pictures that are just....too personal?

you feel like you have to say "oh my gosh cute cat" even if you are gagging.
....and the dob on her drivers' license is 1952.
this shouldn't shown in public, talked about it public, or ever done.
i don't care if "dogs have cleaner mouths than humans".

[ringtones]
normal looking people having ringtones like:
because i got high by afroman
star trek theme song
etc.

[license plates]

[facebook checkins]
if i wanted to know where you were, i would text you so we could meet up.
if i wanted to stalk you like a creep, i would check your latest facebook checkin
just leave facebook for "reconnecting" and stalking pictures, not locations :/

[license plate frames]

these frames just wouldn't be spotted on the cars of normal people...

[voicemails]
sometimes people just give out too much information about themselves.
all it needs to say is "hi this is regina and i can't come to the phone, sorry"
but instead it says something like "hi this is regina i'm terribly sorry that i missed your call, i am either in the shower, feeding the cows, sleeping, exercising, getting the mail or grocery shopping! leave me a detailed message and i will call you back as soon as i can! have an excellent day because you deserve it!"

see how useless most of that information was?

are there any that i missed??

    [gramms]

katy perry has always bugged me, mostly just because my mom can't stand her. and because she sings three of the top ten most obnoxious songs.
    1) teenage dream
    2) firework
    3) i kissed a girl
    and here's yet another reason.

it's like zenon girl of the 21st century mixed with charlie's angels. the grammy's were february 13th, maybe she was going for the look of cupid, but she was a day early.

good news though, lady gaga didn't look too strange.
    just...kind of.

and nicki minaj was way normal and formal looking too.

    then christina agularia fell.

thanks for the laughs you guys.

    Valentimes

Why is Valetimes a big deal?
I mostly just miss making Valentimes every year for elementary school parties. I always had homemade ones, cause I was just sooooooo crafty as a child. One year I literally took two black garbage bags to school with my Valentimes in them. Normal kids had a grocery bags, but I was weird. I had put hershey hugs and kisses in balloons, blown them up, and tied them to paper mache Valentimes.  Needless to say, my mom drove me that day, walking would have been an absolute joke.
Since I miss that so much, I decided to make a valentime for all of blogger friends!!
    So here you go!

I am so proud to say that I had to go clear back to pictures from sophomore year to find a kissy face.  Thank goodness I don't do that one anymore.

Also, I'm super excited to go to my friend's "Estrogen Extravaganza" tonight! it will be an excellent Valentimes night.

And I hate it when people say Valentimes. it's valentines.

the audio is all that matters...so it's fine that the picture is ridiculous.

sadly hilarious, thanks uncle rand for the clip.

    1.06.2011

    [grammar]

it's (it is) just a pet peeve of mine.

    your = possessive
you're = you are, hence the apostrophe
    it's (it is) NEVER u + r = ur.

    there = a place
    their = possessive
    they're = they are
    thurr = duh

    not definately.
    not definatly.
    not definantly.
    not definetly.
    not definently.
    not defiantly.
sound it out, or look for the little red dotted line underneath the word when you type, it means it's (it is) misspelled.

if you really do not care about something, then why would you say that you could care less?  you obviously already care the least amount possible, so it is impossible to care any less.  it's (it is) i COULDN'T care less.  cause you really couldn't. just like you couldn't care less about grammar.  but i could care less about grammar. get it?

    neither vs neither
    it's (it is) knee-thur.
    not nye-thur.
i learnt (not learned) it in 11th grade english.

    two = 2
    to = motion/direction
    too = excessive/in addition to

since vs. sense vs. cents vs. scents. they're (they are) all different.

a lot vs. alot (the misspelling of allot)
    third grade, come on.

ANYWAYs. it doesn't have an S on the end.  it's (it is) just anyway.  a person who says anyway automatically gets bonus friendship points with me.  it means they're (they are) smart. smrt.

another category of people that automatically get bonus friendship points are those who (whom? what do i know) correct peoples' grammar on facebook (or the sides of buildings). hysterical.

and i know that i should be capitalized and so should the beginning of sentences.  always remember....

    12.24.2010

    [tis the season]

why do people feel the need to put things like these in their yards?

santa doesn't deliver trees, there are 9 reindeer, and where did those penguins come from?

he drives a sleigh not a flamed harley.

and this is just too cute to not share.

...he sees you when you're sleeping...that is so creepy.

    Merry Christmas Eve!

    12.22.2010

    [so indie it hurts]

being indie and urban is so cool.
    guys.
    really.
if you own/do/like/whatever more than 5 of this things then you're probably SO indie that it hurts (just like everyone else).

leather/string bracelets. it makes you "unique" and adds personality. the more the better.

    self explanatory and hysterical.

    is coffee really that good?

they must emit less exhaust or something. GO GREEN!

    "we're going out to sushi"

they're not cute. horrid tan lines. but you must be way outdoorsy.

cause natural is the only way to be. boo preservatives.

peace signs: the first stage of being indie.

    yoga.

take it OFF of the back of your car right now.

how many pair do YOU own?

i double-bag my milk. thanks for saving the planet for the both of us with your reusable shopping bags.

slouchy beanies--must be worn year-round no matter what the weather.

    are they really?
    that's sad.

it's alright to feel cool in this store, or say "i got it at urban" cause DUH who doesn't know you must be referring to urban outfitters.

admit it. we all think we look hot in thick black framed glasses. (obviously she does). but doesn't this fact make it funny when you see everyone with their slouchy beanies, skinny ties, or giant scarves wearing them?
    p.s. nice lip gloss.

WOW that's so retro. did you restore it?

you might look cool but get real--it itches more than a wool sweater with an irritating tag.

    why? no.

everything looks better in an antiqued polaroid, right?

i'll admit i own/do/like/whatever quite a few of these things, but whatever. i don't recycle. and i LOVE aerosols and styrofoam.
maybe we'll run into each other at open mic night at downtown coffee break and we can chat about the environment ;)

    p.s. bras are necessary, girls.

p.s.s. this is not meant to offend anyone in any way. i am sorry ahead of time, no need to leave a comment and tell me that.
